About the Presenter:
Dr. Gatzioufas received his MD in Medicine from the Aristoteles University Medical School (AUTH), Thessaloniki/Greece, in 2001. He served as senior research associate at the Department of Experimental Ophthalmology, University of Muenster (UKS), Muenster/Germany, from 2004 to 2006. He obtained his PhD from UKS in 2007. Since 2007 he has been attending his residency training program at the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Saarland, Homburg/Germany, where he is currently serving as senior resident. He is co-founder of the Eye Research Saarland, where he is the Head of the Cornea Cell Biology Lab and the Visual Electrophysiology Lab.

Dr. Gatzioufas serves the administrative board of the Ophthalmology Research Club Saarland and he is member of the German Cornea Club. He is reviewer of five peer-reviewed medical journals and has been an invited speaker in several international ophthalmology meetings worldwide. Dr. Gatzioufas’s research is predominantly focused on the molecular basis of corneal dystrophies as well as on the pathophysiology of keratoconus. His research interests also include the study of dry eye disease, ocular surface imaging, visual optics, femtosecond surgery and microcirculation of optic nerve head.
